 About Us

Established in September, 2006, The Cornerstone Montessori School is a private, co-educational school welcoming children aged 18 months to nine-years-old. The Cornerstone Montessori School is an Initiate Member School of the American Montessori Society.

Mission Statement

The Cornerstone Montessori School is committed to providing a solid academic foundation following the principles and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. Our children are encouraged to learn both independently and as part of a close community. They develop a love of learning and a positive self-image through personal achievement. We maintain a peaceful and loving atmosphere, one in which the child feels free to explore the vast opportunities available.

School Culture

The Cornerstone Montessori School is a small, yet very diverse community of families who come from all walks of life: North and South America, Europe, India, Asia and more. We enjoy learning about the different cultures of our students, celebrating occasions such as Diwali, Chinese New Year, Cinco de Mayo, St. Patrick's Day and more.

Our class sizes are small, always with less than 20 children per class. We feel strongly that this gives the lead teachers and their assistants the proper time to focus on each child, and to give lessons and observe the children working together and independently.

At some point during each day, our students have an opportunity to spend time with their friends from the other classes. Our kindergarteners help to arrange the younger children's lunches and nap room, and then eat lunch together before their challenging afternoon work. Our younger children eat as one group, and the elementary students assist them in cleaning their environment. They often read books together until it is time to settle in for a story and some much-needed rest. They truly look out for each other, even knowing which blanket or stuffed animal belongs to whom.

We are very family-oriented, and come together for events such as Family Movie Nights, the Spring Art Show, Bingo, and our Annual Family Picnic. We have all gotten to know the older and younger siblings of our students, regardless of whose classroom their brother or sister is in. Many families spend time together outside of school, and their children are often involved in the same activities. They have formed wonderful relationships with their children's teachers as well.

There are many opportunities for parents to learn more about Montessori through small workshops such as Montessori in the Home, Montessori Math Night, and Montessori Language Night. The workshops are a valuable resource of ways to understand and support your child's Montessori education.
